Alex Oliver TS #2
I met with P.J at his home on June 13 from 12:00-1:00PM. The topics we covered were both vocabulary words and a reading text found in an eighth grade science textbook. I prepared similarly to the first session, but I started by testing him on the words we covered prior. When he completed all of the sentences I had him read them aloud. Then, we went over the nine new vocabulary words with example sentences. He first had trouble with the terms solstice and inertia, but after going over the readings and using a visual aid he seemed to understand them much better. I used a time-lapse video of Antarctica to show how different seasons impact the amount of light in that area to help him understand why a solstice occurs. Also, the book provided a figure that showed inertia's role in the Moon's orbit of Earth which helped with his understanding.
