Today I met Ngoc at the conference room at CIES. She didn't have questions at first so I began talking to her about YouTube videos she watched. I was a little concerned that because she didn't bring anything that I'd have nothing to do for an hour. Enough chatting brought enough things to teach for an hour. I explained the idioms of to be able to, ability, in general vs majority and the idea of 'supposed to' was linked to all of this. I am trying to layer words together to build a network of understanding. One idea I am trying to do is to give Ngoc something tangible to practice rather than give her example after example.
"Can you be happy?" Yes, I am able to be happy. I'm supposed to be happy.
