Hayden Forehand TS #2
Today, June 17th, I met with South Korean Seokbin Kang at the Stone building on the FSU campus. Using the same assessment style I employed with my previous tutee, Kang (as he told me he prefers to be called) discussed our backgrounds and his various experiences in The States so far. He informed me that he has been employing a tactic of watching sitcoms (namely The Office) in English to better his understanding of spoken English. He told me (and indeed his texts with me about meeting up for our first session confirmed this) that he believes he has a good grasp of "academic English" but wishes to become a better listener and speaker. He wished to have a conversation in order to listen to spoken English and we discussed his enjoyment of baseball, and he wanted me to explain my love of rock climbing. He asked if it would be okay if he brought his wife in for future sessions and I said that would certainly be fine. Focusing more on the "practical" rather than academic side of English going forward I believe that I will certainly be able to help further his goal of become a more effective listener and a smoother speaker.
