Melannie TS #3

June 19th, from 3 pm to 4:45 pm:

On Wednesday, I had met up with Kubra Metin at the CIES kitchen for our very first meeting. We greeted each other as we made our way to the kitchen area. I used the "tutoring guidelines: getting started" questions to get to know Kubra. Although, I did not use all of the questions because we answer to them in our own ways. I learned that Kubra Metin came from Turkey and that she has only been in the United States for two months before meeting me. Therefore, her first language is Turkish and she had learned English growing up and never any other languages besides those two. Kubra lives with her fiance, who he had to seek asylum in the US. Kubra had told me that in Turkey the current leader is slowly turning the nation into a dictatorship. Anyone against him and his political ways had been thrown to prison, including those in high professional fields, and because Kubra and her fiance are lawyers that fight for the people, they had to escape Turkey. Kubra wants to do her master's degree in the US and does not ever want to go back to Turkey because of the leader, who had changed the entire government system into his way. Kubra also would like to become a lawyer or a Human's Rights lawyer for any person that their government is going against the world's Human's Rights law. Her level in reading is at Advanced Elementary while the rest are at Intermediate level and her speaking skills is at the advanced level. We will be working on her reading and grammar skills.
