Tutee
On Monday, I had met up with my tutee after completed my class observation for the day. I had messaged with Kubra about what she had wanted to work on, and she told me that she wanted to work on present perfect tense. Because Kubra had skipped two levels, she did not fully understand the present prefect tense. The night before, I had researched ideas for best teaching present perfect for an intermediate level student. Not only did I found a worksheet that best explains present perfect sentence structure in different ways, but I also found an activity for her to practice in. We started on the activity first before I went on to explain what present perfect tense is. The activity I had picked to do with her was called "Connect 4". In which, on the left side column would be the sample verb and object while the top row was the different time frame. For example, the top left box was "study English" and the first box on the top row, on the far left, was "2 years". Kubra had to write down a sentence using the terms in the boxes while knowing when to use "for" and "since". So, the example sentence she was given before starting was "I have studied English for 2 years." This had helped her understanding not only how to use present perfect tense but also how to use them with different time frames. After the activity ended, I explain to her the difference between simple present, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. I had used the same explanation Dr. Kim had told us in class that present perfect is a connection of the past to the current situation. Of course, I let her keep all of the worksheets for her to study over it. The next session, I will provide a reading material in which she will have to read aloud to me the story while circling/underlining all of the present perfect tenses in the story.
