Location:         Student’s home
Topic/Skill:      Introduced myself and my background. As can be expected, the 13 yr. old student was a bit reserved, but very cooperative and interested in the science material.  The focus of the lesson was vocabulary acquisition within the context of a science workbook. I introduced using text features (“icing”) before reading the content in paragraph forms (“cake”) as a way to prepare to receive the new information.

Feedback         Emphasized that he has background knowledge to bring to the task of learning 
to tutee:          new material and demonstrated/practiced how to activate it.
                        
Lessons I          I learned that If I provide ample time for him to think about the questions, he will 
learned:           produce a thoughtful response. My tendencies sometimes lean toward a hurried approach. He was reserved and receptive to learning.
