June 12th, from 10 am to 2 pm:
On Wednesday, I had gone to the PACE Summer Camp where we teach English to migrate children. They are from kindergarten to fourth grade and they are all from Spanish speaking countries. Because I do volunteer work with this program, I did not have to come with materials as they provide them to me. I was in charge of Skarlet, Gabriella and her older sister, Yudith. Skarlet and Yudith are both in second-grade while Gabriella is in first-grade. Gabriella had been placed with the second graders because of her advance in English. I had them read a book, which was for second graders, aloud to me. Each one took a turn reading a paragraph from the book. Whenever they felt stuck at how to say a word and never seen the word before, I would help them out by slowly pronouncing the words to them. I later had a list of questions about the reading, in which, I asked them. Both of Gabriella's and Skarlet's reading skills were great while Yudith needed more practice. After their reading, they seemed more excited to read another book so I had them read a new book, but that time, that book was meant for fourth graders. I plan to work on Yudith improving her reading skills.
