I observed Dr. Rios' speaking class on July 1. At the start of the class, Dr. Rios had students complete comprehension questions for a reading that they had been working on. Dr. Rios walked around the classroom answering questions and providing feedback to students. After, he collected the assignments and started a lesson on timed reading. The students were introduced to the concept and were given the details for their first timed reading exercise later this week. The reading exercise was on Genghis Khan and students were taught how to find the answers to questions in the reading. This was done by giving the students the answers before hand and encouraging them to find the answers in the article. I liked this strategy a lot because it showed them how to look for the answers of fact based and inference based questions.
