Today I met Ngoc at the CIES lounge. She brought the second draft of her composition that we worked on last time. This draft was marked for grammar through highlighting. I let Ngoc read every paragraph and go over the highlighted areas while guiding her through questions as to why something is wrong. Most of the time when Ngoc read the lines she was able to correct herself and find the answers in her own way. Some sentences I taught grammar through questioning her.

If a verb didn't agree with the number of subjects I'd ask 'how many people are doing the action here' she answers correctly and then I highlight the error and ask 'how do we use this verb if multiple people are doing the action here? What should this be?'.  I use questions like this to guide her into correcting herself. My main lesson here is that if you read your essay out loud and ask yourself the logistics of what you're trying to say, you can catch a lot of errors before submitting them.
