Wednesday, July 3rd, I met with my conversation partner, Faisal, at the Askew Student Life Center from 8:20 to around midnight. For about an hour, Faisal and I discussed a number of topics while waiting to see the movie Shazam. One of the most memorable moments of this meeting came when Faisal told me about his recent trip to Cairo, Egypt. He had nothing but good things to say about the city, regaling me with details ranging from its architectural beauty and night life to its general atmosphere and geography. While Faisal has shown some difficulty articulating his thoughts on certain topics, discussing Cairo seemed to come from a place of genuine passion and fondness, and the words flowed to him like water; it was awesome to see him praise the city so highly. Aside from that, we talked about the Tallahassee night life and the often worrying climate of Florida. At 9:30, we went and watched Shazam with a few other CIES students, one of them being my tutee, Hyo Sang. Ultimately, this was a great night, and I am eager to get Faisal raving with passion about another topic.
