Conversational Partner

Last Wednesday, I had met my first conversational partner. I have two different conversational partners I will be working with. And this was my very first meeting with even just one of them. My conversational partner that I had met today goes by the name of Zayed Almalki. His native language is Arabic and he is from Saudi Arabia. Zayed had told me that he has only been in Tallahassee for two weeks or two months, cannot remember which one. However, he has also told me that he lived in Tampa for several months before coming to Tallahassee. When he first came to the U.S. he went to Tampa to study and learn English. He came to the U.S. without knowing anything in English except for two words: Hello, and Goodbye. Those were the only words Zayed knew when he came here, so he had a bad experience in Tampa because of his pronunciation. His government decided to give him a second chance, because his government is the one paying him to learn English here, and so that is why he is in the CIES program. Zayed told me that he mostly would like to work on his writing style because the American essay writing style is very much different than the Arabic. I had told him that I will be glad to work on his writing style while letting him practice speaking. I would correct Zayed whenever I hear him say a word incorrectly. Sometimes I would wait until he finishes the sentence he is speaking and before he has the chance to talk more, I would ask him what the incorrect word is or what he was trying to say than help him say it correctly.
