Sara Young TS #6
TS #6 Andres #5: 3 July
On Wednesday, July 3rd at 3 PM in a CIES classroom (went there because there was a 4th of July party in the downstairs lounge; asked for permission to use the classroom before going), I met with Andres and started our tutoring session by reviewing some vocabulary words we had covered the previous session, and asked of him to create sentences using those words and also to create sentences with the same words that could be used in a different context. After doing this review, I looked over new vocabulary words that Andres brought in after reading the second half of the This American Life podcast assigned to him the previous tutoring session and since there were so many words on the page, we decided to go over half of them and leave the second half for the next tutoring session. I looked over the vocabulary words in the context shown on the podcast’s transcript and asked Andres to tell me what part of speech the word is, as well as what he thinks the definition may be based on the sentence itself. I also asked Andres to create new sentences and created situational sentences in which words would be used. After the tutoring session was over, I wrote down the list of words covered during the lecture with the date at the top, as I do for every tutoring session with Andres, and sent him the vocabulary words covered so he could review them on his own. We also planned to cover the rest of the vocabulary words not covered in this tutoring session the next time we’d meet, as mentioned previously.
