Sara Young TS #7
TS #7 Marcia #2: 3 July
On Wednesday, July 3rd at 4 PM in a CIES classroom (went there because there was a 4th of July party in the downstairs lounge; asked for permission to use the classroom before going) after meeting with Andres, I met with Marcia for our first official tutoring session after already introducing ourselves the last session we had met. We started the tutoring session by going over some prepositions that trouble Marcia the most; of the ones mentioned were from/to, beside/besides, and above/on top of, to which I covered the differences between each preposition despite the similarities it may have to the other one it’s next to. For example, I explained that the preposition “from” describes something coming from someone/something else while the preposition “to” means that someone/something is going towards another thing/someone else; essentially summarizing that from/to all have to do with direction. I then did a mini role-play activity with these two prepositions where we had to pass one another a drawing of a gift on a mini, portable whiteboard I own and using “from/to” accordingly. After going through the list of prepositions Marcia has trouble with and doing example role-play activities using them, I asked Marcia if she had any questions and if there was anything else troubling her that was not mentioned before when we first introduced one another, to which she asked me about the differences between present perfect and present perfect continuous tense, two grammar points learned at the beginning of the CIES TEFL course. I explained the differences and gave example sentences and clarified any confusions she had regarding how to use them. After doing so and making sure that there were no more questions or concerns, the tutoring session ended.
